BBNJ: complete a pre-collection information form

Purpose

Use this form to provide information about a planned collection project involving marine genetic resources of areas beyond national jurisdiction using a UK craft.

You must complete this form if you are the relevant person responsible for a collection project under the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Act 2026.

Submit the information as soon as possible and at least 7 months before collection is due to begin.

The UK BBNJ Focal Point will submit the information to the BBNJ Clearing-House Mechanism.

Before you start

You may need:

  • details of the collection project
  • details of the sponsoring institution or institutions
  • details of the relevant person
  • information about the objectives and subject matter of the research
  • information about the marine genetic resources to be targeted or collected
  • information about the planned collection area
  • information about the UK craft, equipment and collection methods
  • information about participation and technical assistance
  • a data management plan and, if available, a copy of the full data management plan
  • a chart or sampling plan to upload, if available
