The UK Fisheries Administrations can licence up to nine UK vessels to target North Atlantic albacore in 2026. There are 553 tonnes of quota available to UK vessels. This includes an amount set aside for bycatch by the UK fleet.
A tonnage limit will be set in issued licences, and this amount will depend on the number of applications received and licences issued, as well as the content of any received applications. This limit may be subject to review and variation, as required.
UK Fisheries Administrations are keen to ensure that licences are issued in a fair manner, recognising the significant investment that certain vessel owners will have made in researching the North Atlantic albacore fishery and equipping their vessels to pursue it. Applicants should therefore provide evidence of their preparation and ability to participate in the fishery. Consideration will also be given to the environmental, social and economic impacts of your proposed fishing activity in determining whether your application is successful.
You will be asked some questions about you, the vessel you are applying on behalf of, details of your intended fishing plan, as well as any previous experience you may have of the fishery and what benefits your fishing plan will bring.
