Complaint criteria

To be eligible to submit a complaint, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Your complaint cannot be about something that is already being investigated by the police or subject to a decision of the courts, statutory tribunal, Parole Board, Crown Prosecution Service or the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

  • Your complaint cannot be about something that happened more than six months ago, or that you could have known about six months ago.

  • Your complaint cannot be about or on behalf of another person (e.g. parents, spouse/partners, other friends and family members) even if authority to act has been given, unless there is an exceptional reason such as cognitive reasons, or a learning need, which must be evidenced.

  • You can read the national complaints policy here (opens in new tab)

If you cannot submit your complaint online:

  • Contact your local probation office.
  • They will help you make your complaint in a way that suits your needs.
  • They will also make sure your complaint is recorded and sent to the complaints team.

If there is an exceptional reason select 'yes'.
